Selection of sculptures in stone and bronze

M
y background is heavily influenced by Fred Conlon, a Sculptor who worked primarily in stone and bronze. Growing up, art and geometric shapes were ever present, thus providing me with constant visual stimuli. I learnt that a piece of sculpture needs to encourage interaction with its viewer and/or the local community.  Sculpture needs to be engaged with and felt at a physical, emotional and cognitive level by the viewer.

My present day influences are Irish sculptors Eileen McDonagh and Jacki McKenna. Their use of visual form and their treatment of stone allows the balance of the rough natural elements juxtapositioned against geometric and organic shapes.  Their respect for stone has channeled to me the realisation that art is my calling, and where I feel most at home.
